Great to find this page. I hope it helps me keep up with pool schedules, since I seem to misplace my hard copy just when I need to check again. What a great place, especially the staff!

Seeing your web site brought back great memories of my youth membership in the 60s. Lots of kids came to the Y at night in downtown Newark. Whatever became of camp Kiamesha? Are there any other Kiamesha alumni out there?

I DO NOT AGREE with your statements Suzanne over safety in DOWNTOWN Newark where the Y is located or the quality of the Y rooms. With the opening of the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, and major renovations made to the Y over the last few years, you need to make another visit to Newark. When was the last time you were in the Y? Thousands of people a night are visiting the arts center and the Y is busier than ever. You need to update your impression of the city and the Y and see what is really happening.

Nice website! But I think travelers should be cautioned a little more strongly about Newark -- it's a beautiful city, I've worked and studied there, my family lived there for five generations -- but it is NOT a place where I would consider walking at night, let alone staying in a hostel! Unfortunately Newark is much less safe than Manhattan crime-wise.
