The Newark Y's High Street Heights (HSH)/ALFHA Supportive Housing Project provides 12 apartments to formerly chronically homeless families and individuals. The program is addressing one of the existing gaps in the current continuum of care, which is a lack of affordable Permanent Housing. Each adult within the family receives all services that are determined to be necessary, based on individual needs assessments. By providing each resident with the ability to obtain substance abuse counseling, mental health services, and life skills training as well as education and employment when possible, our goal is to decrease homelessness in our community.
Our Fresh Start Supportive Housing Project houses 16 disabled, chronically homeless single men and women. Program staff members conduct needs assessments and connect residents with necessary services. The goal of the Fresh Start program is to decrease the current level of recidivism of homelessness by providing each resident with the ability to obtain substance abuse counseling, inpatient and outpatient detox services, mental health services, life skills training as well as educational and employment, when possible.
