Membership Amenities:
Assess Your Level of Fitness . . . How physically fit are you? Would you like to step up to the next level of fitness, and enjoy the rewards of a healthier lifestyle and a better sense of well-being? Begin by signing up for a Fitness Assessment to see where you stand now. Upon arrival, members receive a personal fitness assessment with one of our fitness staff. The assessment is not mandatory, but we do recommend that you take advantage of this complimentary service, so that you can assess current fitness levels, identify training needs, select training regimens, evaluate the success of your program in achieving its objectives, stay motivated
Your assessment will provide estimated measures of your fitness level including cardio respiratory endurance, muscular strength/endurance, flexibility, and body composition.
The instructor is available to answer any questions that you may have, as well as help you decide which group aerobic classes are best for you and other activities that you may want to participate in. At the end of your stay, you will receive another fitness assessment, so you can see the results from all of your hard work. You can obtain a copy of this assessment to take home with you to keep for your own personal reference!
Your membership includes a 45-minute fitness orientation with a YMCA staff person who will take you through your first workout. Our staff will help you establish goals and formulate a plan to reach them. Members learn the proper technique and execution on over thirty weight training machines for various muscle groups. Our staff will also help members gauge the intensity of aerobic workouts to reach optimal performance on our cardiovascular equipment. In addition, proper warm ups and stretches for tight muscles will be illustrated. Members can schedule refresher appointments as needed at either the membership desk or in the Cardio Center. Our trained staff can also refer members to other services and programs that the Newark YMCA has to offer, such as massage therapy, babysitting and personal trainers. Babysitting Our babysitting room has been remodeled to accommodate children who are potty trained through 8 years of age while their parents are working out at the YMCA. Kids will enjoy crafts, movies, board games and educational computer games. The cost is $3.00 per child/per day, but there is no charge for Household and Single Parent Members. The babysitting room is open Monday-Friday 5:00pm-8:00pm, and Saturday, 9:00am-1:00pm.

Newark YMCA at UMDNJ 
Our UMDNJ facility is a newly renovated wellness center located in the Doctor's Office Center on the campus of UMDNJ. Programs and services are designed to enhance members’ overall physical, spiritual, emotional well-being and health. Membership at the 7,400 square foot facility includes:
- Complementary fitness orientation and assessment
- High-energy Fitness and Spin Classes in aerobics room with spring-loaded floor or spinning room
- YOGA
- Personal Training
- 60 pieces of strength and cardiovascular fitness equipment, including Life Fitness "Engage" console treadmills with IPod compatible 15" entertainment centers
- Complimentary guest passes
- Men's and Women's locker and shower rooms
- Full access to the Downtown Y's heated pool, basketball and
racquetball courts and other amenities.

Here is some key information about all of our membership options:
Adult Gold:
Individuals age 23 or over use the Gold Locker Room
Adult Silver:
Individuals age 23 or over use the Silver Locker Room.
Senior Gold:
Individuals age 62 or over. Gold Senior members may use the Gold Locker Room.
Senior Silver:
Individuals age 62 or over. Silver Senior members must use the Silver Locker Room.
Children must use the Silver Locker Room.
Single Parent:
An immediate family residing at the same address and including one adult and up to five children under the age of 18. There is an annual $15 fee for each additional child payable in full at time of membership issue. The adult member may use the
Household:
An immediate family residing at the same address and including two adults and up to five children under the age of 18. There is a $15 annual fee for each additional child payable in full at time of membership issue. The adult member may use the Gold Locker Room. Children must use the Silver Locker Room.
Young Adult:
Individuals age 18 thru 23. Young Adult members must use the Silver Locker Room.*
Older Youth:
Youth ages 11 thru 17. Older Youth members must use the Silver Locker Room. *
Youth:
Children age 10 and under. Youth members are not allowed in Gold Locker Room and must be accompanied by an adult in the facility unless attending a scheduled program.*
Corporate:
A corporate membership option is available to organizations with 15 or more employees. If the corporation signs a corporate contract with the Y, the joiner fee is waived for each member.
Flexible payment arrangements are possible, and financial aid is available for those who qualify.
*This category does not apply to UMDNJ.
