Capoeira

The Afro-Brazilian art of Capoeira. Capoeira is the Brazilian art and game of dance and self-defense. Capoeira provides students with experiences of community and self-awareness. Classes are taught by Saman Dashti (Professor Macaco) and Jana Burton (Monitoria Amazonas) of Grupo Liberdade de Capoeira; the first Capoeira group in New Jersey was founded by Robson Ribeiro (Mestre Cigano.)

 A typical class includes:

• Warm up stretching and cardio exercises
• Martial arts dance and acrobatic movement training
• Practice of musical instruments and song
• Lecture and discussions of activities and their applications to everyday life

• To perform the folkloric expressive art of Capoeira
• Self defense, and public speaking
• To have fun playing the game of Capoeira
