Michael Bright Named to National AYP Board
Newark Y President and CEO, Michael Bright, has been named to the Board of Directors of the Association of YMCA Professionals (AYP), a national organization dedicated to enhancing the well-being and development of YMCA staff throughout the country. Because of the many opportunities for growth and colleague interaction it affords to its members, AYP is the primary network for YMCA professional staff.
Michael C. Bright, the President and Chief Executive Officer of the YMWCA of Newark and Vicinity, has been a career YMCA leader for sixteen years. A Bucknell-educated, Hall of Fame basketball player, Michael began his YMCA career as Program Director of the Newark Y. After serving as a Y executive in other parts of the country, Michael returned to the Newark YMCA as Chief Operating Officer in 2007. In 2011, he was promoted to President and CEO. At the Newark Y, Michael is known for his tireless dedication to improving the fiscal health of the association, expanding and strengthening facilities and ensuring the association delivers on its mission to provide the people of the Newark community with the resources they need to thrive. He is a proud member of the YMCA’s Multicultural Executive Development Program (now MEDI), African-American Executive Forum, and Multicultural Mentoring Program.
