Camp Linwood Macdonald Overnight Summer Camp offers an unforgettable summer experience where children grow, explore, and thrive in a supportive and inclusive environment. Nestled in a beautiful natural setting, the camp provides a wide range of activities—from swimming, sports, and outdoor adventures to creative arts and team-building programs—designed to build confidence, independence, and lifelong friendships. Counselor-In-Training (CIT) Program

Coed, Grades 10th - 12th

The Counselor-In-Training (CIT) Program at Camp Linwood Macdonald is a 3-week leadership and skill-building experience for teens ages 15–17 who are ready to take the next step in their camp journey. Through hands-on training, teamwork, and real-world practice, participants learn essential skills in leadership, childcare, teamwork, and program support while building confidence and independence.

CITs will receive American Red Cross First Aid & AED certification, develop strategies for engaging younger campers, assist counselors in daily activities, and explore behind-the-scenes roles that keep camp running smoothly. The program encourages personal growth, initiative, and reflection—helping each participant discover their strengths and leadership potential.

    • Develop responsibility by managing time, materials, and group needs.

    • Work effectively with other CITs and counselors.

    • Support peers and demonstrate reliability within the camp community.
  • Childcare and Mentorship Skills

    • Learn strategies for engaging younger campers.
    • Model positive behavior, patience, and inclusivity.
    • Understand camper safety, supervision, and emotional support basics.
  • Program Support and Initiative

    • Assist in planning and running camp games, arts, and outdoor activities.
    • Show initiative in helping counselors and taking on small leadership roles.
    • Develop creative problem-solving skills during camp activities.
  • Personal Growth

    • Reflect on personal strengths and areas for growth.
    • Build confidence, independence, and resilience through hands-on experience.
    • Set and achieve personal development goals for the session.

Session Layout

The CIT program is a 3-week program, Sunday through Friday. CIT's stay at camp and return home on the weekends.

  • Week 1: Development

    • Applicants will go through in-depth training that focuses on childcare, camp programs, and safety.
    • This week will include:
      • American Red Cross First Aid & AED training.
      • Trauma informed care and behavioral management for children and youth.
      • Adventure Network high ropes safety training.
      • Learning various camp programs.
      • How to set personal development goals.
  • Week 2:  Child Care & Responsibility 

    • This week applicants will have the opportunity to use their newly acquired skills, alongside experienced counselors, to support and care for campers during a traditional week of camp.
      • Applicants will stay in cabin with Campers and Counselors.
      • Applicants will be responsible for helping campers with their day-to-day camp activities.
      • Applicants will continue to track their personal development goals through once a day push out sessions.
  • Week 3: Supporting Role

    • Not everyone’s strength is in childcare. Our camp requires all types of people to successfully operate. During this third week Applicants will have the opportunity to develop skills in more behind the scenes role at camp.
      • Applicants will be taught and participate in the basics of landscaping and environmental preservation.
      • Applicants will learn basic skills in kitchen and restaurant management.
      • Applicants will help facilitate, setup, and run evening camp programs and activities.

3 Week Session | $300

  • Sunday, July 19th - Friday, Aug 7th

Application

  • Applicants must be between ages 15 – 17 at the beginning of the 2026 Camp Session.
  • Applicants are required to fill out an application and go through an interview process.
  • Accepted applicants are required to commit to the full 3-week program, living on property.
  • Being a CIT is not a paid position.
