Our mission is to provide a safe and supportive residential program to sustain individuals and keep families strong during periods of crisis. The Newark YMCA's Emergency Residence Program is one of the most trusted shelters in Essex County, with 300 beds for individuals and families. Accommodations include private rooms for families, as well as community dining areas, and laundry facilities.

The Emergency Residence Program offers case management and services to all of our clients, including:

  • Initial Assessment

  • Crisis Intervention

  • Advocacy

  • Counseling

  • Referrals for Mental Health Services or Substance Abuse

  • Employment Assistance

  • Housing Search Assistance

  • Health Screening Referral

  • Food, Clothing, Hygiene Products, and Diapers through our Pantry

Our vision is to see our residents thrive in safe, long-term housing, and receive all the support they need as they work toward their goals.
