Meaningful Change

The Newark Y brings people together to focus on the things that matter the most in our community – from childhood obesity to homelessness. We are grateful to our generous community partners who make all of this possible.

Recent highlights:

  • The YMCA of Newark and Vicinity was recently awarded a planning grant from Goldman Sachs Bank USA, intended to facilitate the Newark YMCA’s process of determining the best ways to help our community thrive. As we look ahead, we are seeking ways of maximizing the YMCA’s benefit to the community and expanding the impact of our programs throughout our service area. This grant will build the YMCA’s capacity to evaluate its real estate needs and strategies to better serve the broader Newark community.

Support for YMCA of Newark and Vicinity is provided by Goldman Sachs Bank USA (GS Bank). GS Bank’s Urban Investment Group was founded in 2001 and it deploys capital in traditionally underserved markets to grow businesses, create mixed-income housing, and revitalize neighborhoods. Through investments, loans, grants, and service initiatives, GS Bank seeks to help transform distressed communities into sustainable and vibrant neighborhoods of choice and opportunity. Thank you Goldman Sachs!
  • For the last two three years, the Victoria Foundation has awarded the Newark YMCA funding to support summer camp initiatives. This year alone, the Foundation made it possible for 135 Newark-area children to spend two weeks in our summer residence camp at Camp-Linwood MacDonald in Sussex County and sponsored 2 Newark children at our exciting summer day camp. In 2015, the Victoria Foundation awarded the Newark YMCA $30,000 for camperships, with an additional $15,000 challenge grant.  Thank you, Victoria Foundation!
  • In 2013, the Newark YMCA opened beautiful, ADA-compliant, Rooke Lodge at Camp Linwood MacDonald. Construction was complete in early summer, and throughout the rest of the year, Rooke Lodge was home base for nearly five hundred children and adults as they enjoyed swimming, hiking, kayaking, challenges on the zip-line, team building on the low ropes course, and much, much more.  We are deeply grateful to our generous funders for making the dream of Rooke Lodge a reality:
