YMCA Suspending Membership Services effective April 25, 2021

Dear Newark YMCA Members and Community,
Please be advised that effective 2 pm on Saturday, April 24, 2021, the Newark YMCA will suspend all membership programs and member facility access until further notice.
We’ve made this very difficult decision due to the severe financial constraints the YMCA is operating under since the onset of the worldwide COVID-19 Pandemic. Our membership numbers and associated fees are insufficient to fund the costs of providing the membership programs and facility usage.
Members who have paid membership fees for periods beyond April 24, 2021, have the option of requesting a refund of those fees or may donate the balance of fees to the YMCA’s Annual Support Campaign. The Y’s Annual Support Campaign will continue to fund shelter for homeless children, adults and families; summer camp experiences for children and teens; and mentoring programs for vulnerable youth.
Please send an email to chammond@newarkymca.org or letter to Cherie Hammond at Newark YMCA, 600 Broad Street, Newark, NJ 07102 by June 1, 2021 to request a refund of the balance of paid fees. If you prefer to make a donation to the Y, you do not have to do anything. After June 1st, all remaining balances will be transferred to the Y’s Annual Support Campaign.
The YMCA will continue to offer our housing, youth development, and camping programs. We are considering and pursuing a variety of options to be able to provide our community members with sustainable healthy living programs and services. As we determine the best options, we will inform our community. Updates and announcements will be available on our website, www.newarkymca.org.
