YMCA considering options for Membership and Program Services

November 11, 2021

Fall 2021

Dear Newark YMCA Community,

In April of this year we made the difficult decision to suspend our Membership Services and Facility Usage for the second time since the March 2020 COVID19 pandemic. This decision was made to help address the severe financial constraints the YMCA has been operating under since the onset of the worldwide COVID-19 Pandemic.  Our membership numbers and associated fees were simply insufficient to fund the costs of providing the membership programs and facility usage. While other programs and services offered by the YMCA have since stabilized, we know that reopening Membership Services as it previously was offered, would destabilize this balance and create financial hardship again.

During the months since we suspended Membership Services, we have been actively considering options and opportunities. We’ve conducted a space utilization / cost study to recognize all costs of providing specific services.  We continue to research and consider a number of options of how to best serve our community and ensure that services are sustainable.

While we have not finalized our plans, we expect to within the first quarter of 2022.  As we determine details of services and facility availability, we will communicate via our website, Facebook Page, InstaGram, and Twitter account. We will also send updates via email.

We welcome your suggestions and insights regarding how the YMCA can best serve the children, teens, adults and families of the greater Newark region.  Please send them to info@newarkymca.org

Thank you for your consideration and support.

Yours in Service,

Cherie Hammond

Interim Director of Programs and Membership Services
