Newark YMCA Welcomes Dr. Julie Glazer to the Board of Trustees.

Newark NJ – January 24, 2022: The YMCA of Newark and Vicinity is pleased to announce that Dr. Julie Glazer has joined its Board of Trustees.

“I’m so excited to welcome Dr. Glazer to the YMCA Board of Trustees.  She brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to the YMCA movement in the areas of education, child development, and community impact.  With Dr. Glazer’s involvement, I’m confident the YMCA will continue to be a leader in programs that serve and impact our youth and families.”  Noted Michael Bright, President/CEO of the YMCA of Newark and Vicinity.

Dr. Glazer joined the Nutley Public Schools as Superintendent in July 2016 where she has focused on strengthening staff/teacher development, expanding curriculum, improving faclities and engaging parents and other stakeholders. Recently, despite the challenges posed by the COVID Pandemic, Dr. Glazer's leadership ensured that progress and growth continued in every aspect of her district.

Throughout the pandemic, under Dr. Glazer's leadership the Nutley School District ensured that children and families were able to access food, every child had a device and internet access, ventilation systems upgraded, and a social-emotional curriculum and resources were added across all grade levels.  The District also expanded K-8 summer programming, provided extended strategies and reading intervention after school and in the evenings, and invested in outdoor classroom space under Dr. Glazer’s leadership.

Dr. Glazer’s career in education has included leadership roles in Summit and Orange School Districts.  She was also President of Mittman Productions specializing in documentary, educational, and public service programming for the non-profit community.

Dr. Glazer received her BA in Journalism as well as a Certificate of Public Affairs/Public Administration from Indiana University; her MA of Fine Arts (with honors) from Columbia College, Chicago, Illinois; MA in Education (Suma Cum Laude) from  DePaul University, Chicago, Illinois, and her Doctorate in Educational Leadership (Magna Cum Laude) from Saint Peter’s College, New Jersey. She became a National Board Certified Teacher in 2004. National Board Certification is a rigorous, peer-reviewed process that defines and measure teaching excellence and ensures that Board-certified teachers have proven skills to advance student achievement. Less than 1% of teachers nationally have earned this recognition, and Dr. Glazer is one of only 250 NBC teachers in New Jersey.
