Newark YMCA's Youth & Government Program Gain Democracy Skills

March 20, 2024

Teens from the Y's Youth and Government program joined other teens and adults in the State Capital on Monday, March 19th for the NJ Y Alliance Advocacy Day.  While there, the teens met with NJ Legislators to encourage them to support funding for water safety and access to youth civic engagement, particularly in less-served communities.

They also introduced and celebrated five legislators selected by the NJ Y Alliance for their support of YMCA initiatives that strengthen youth development, healthy living and social responsibility in communities across New Jersey. Honored as “Legislative Champions” were Assemblywoman Eliana Pintor Marin (D-29); Assemblywoman Nancy Muñoz (R-21); State Senator Gordon Johnson (D-37); and State Senator Anthony Bucco (R-25).
